Off to the Roller Derby!

Our Daughter is a pretty determined young lady. When she gets an idea, she goes for it. Not to say there aren’t hurdles, and the expectation that she will pick it up in a heartbeat.

Well she isn’t quite off to the roller derby yet. She sure is giving it her best effort though.

Enthusiasm, excitement, the fear of falling. The prospect and thought of being able to skate. The reality of, “what if I fall?”, “I don’t want to break a bone”. Thoughts running through her head, maybe too many, too high of an expectation.

She walked, she tried, held our hands and went alone. The determination never failed to keep on trying.

There was falls, and there were tears. There was strops, but there was laughter. Today was enough for one day she said. Continued to smile until the final fall.

She proclaimed she “never wants to skate again”. To which I replied:

“You can fall and fall, and keep on falling. But you will never be a failure, until you fail to try again”

Her spirit lifted, a small grin on her face. Trying to keep it at bay. But tomorrow we’ll try again. There will be falls, there will be tears, but we’ll keep getting back up.
