Visual Noise Collective

Visual Noise Collective is now in its 7th month of infancy and in this time our members have completed three short term projects.

In this post I’ll give an overview of why, and whats next for the collective. I’m not going to give away too much but to give an idea of the direction we are heading.

Why have we only been doing short term projects?

Short term projects have allowed us to get a small body of work together in a short time, and it also allows us to see how each member views a certain subject or idea.
So far it has been quite surprising how similar we have all approached each project.

1st Project - Close Environment

Close environment was a pretty simple project, but at the same time offered its own challenges for the same reason. It was a documentation of each of locations in the UK. Easy in the sense that no travel was required. Hard in the sense of, how do you document where you live and show it in a way not done before.

It was a fun little project for us, and gave us all a little understanding in the way we each see our surroundings.

2nd Project - Self Reflection

Self Reflection was a deeper, more personal project for the collective. It was a chance for us to see how the others see themselves. Again like Close Environment, the was easy but actually quite hard to photograph ourselves. Maybe not in the literal sense of a “Selfie” (Self Portrait) but I tried to shoot what makes me, me. A lot harder than what it sounds but the work that came from all members was brilliant.

3rd Project - Nature’s Defect: Us

Our latest project took us away from our homes, and out to explore the effect we have on nature and the environment.

Again it was surprising to see how similar we all approached it. How we as a part of nature are the only ones to have a huge effect on nature. No other creature does what we do. I personally shot this to show how we are the ‘Defect’ in nature. There is of course good thin gs happening in the world to try minimize the impact we are making.

I wanted to show the small things that are on a large scale, the big power stations that on the scale of things, aren’t that many but have a huge impact. I also in one image show that nature will eventually reclaim it all.

So Whats next?

Well we will be starting a new short term project in the next few weeks, and possibly continuing Natures Defect to explore it further.

Beyond that we are looking into getting a website up and running to give us a home so to speak, have a blog but importantly to have somewhere dedicated to display our work.

We are all really looking forward to this journey, no idea where it will take us or where the destination is, but I for one am ready for the adventure.
