My real journey in photography began when my son was born back in 2011, we were around my old mans house and he showed me his new toy, a Canon 7D.
Immediately I wanted a camera! He kindly lent me an old Canon 350D with a kit lens and for me it was amazing. That night I got back home and took straight to learning how to use it and within three months I was comfortable in shooting manual, had a pretty good understanding of composition etc. It was then I began taking pictures of our so who at the time was only a few months old.
At the time it was all new to me and I never realized what I was doing, I was documenting our little family and him growing up. 

As the time went by and I had learned of different photography genres there has always been one thing I enjoy doing.... Documenting.... Be it my family on days out, to the more mundane things of home life. It also translated in weddings I have shot, all shot in a photo journalistic/documentary style. I also enjoy street photography, capturing every day life. 

While I love shooting lifestyle portraits or fashion, I have x2 projects that will be a documentation of x2 groups of people with very little in the way of posed photo's. 

Some of the photo's I capture of my family will be far from technically perfect, but they represent our reality of everyday life. Things like these are important to remember, for us to later reflect on in life, to recount them special days and the tragic days of our lives. 

Having a camera near me and with me is important. Kim will tell you I'm annoying, frustrating and maybe a even a dick... But I can't help but feel compelled to tell our story 'In Photos'.

If you have read one of my recent posts about why I left Nikon for Fujifilm cameras (Again), documenting my family was another part of the reason. While I was more than capable of using the big ol' Nikon to do it... It was a royal pain in the arse because it was a massive camera, a heavy camera and being honest I could only be bothered to really use it when I was out on a shoot which is a shame... There is a good 8-10 month gap where I didn't really document our family. It actually makes me sad because it really is something I love to do obsessively.

All good now because I'm back with a small amazing box that takes incredible images and inspires me to shoot shoot shoot!

I love going back through the photo's I have taken over the years and I smile at pretty much every photo because I can still remember the feeling of when I took the pictures. The next set and last set I will share with you, are from a family trip down to Eastbourne. I will never forget Jamie dancing on the pier with the cheekiest face and funniest dance. 

I think I may even design a book for each year of taking pictures of our family, not for any purpose other than to look back through, enjoy and for the kids when they are older to see all of the things we had done together.
